'Wild Flowers at Home' | 2019.
'Wild Flowers at Home' | Recycled Paper, Wire and Thread | 42cm x 42cm x 5cm | 2019.
A vintage book about wild flowers surrounded by British butterflies and the common wild flower Feverfew. The wild flowers and butterflies are all life sized and made from book pages, old letters and brown paper bags. The butterflies include Red Admirals, a Large White and Brimstones.
The flowers petals are hand cut from recycled paper and then painted with water colours (if necessary) and shaped. I attach each one individually to the flower head once ready. The stamen are made from either wire or thread and are bound to the stem before the petals and sepels are attached. The stems are then bound with thread and bound together to form the shape of the plant. The leaves are then attached, some of which will have their veins hand stitched into the paper.
The butterflies wing are cut from recycled paper and their patterns and veins are hand embroidered before being attached to the body which is carved from a roll of paper and painted.
The frames are handmade for each display from solid wood and glass. This particular frame has been made from Ash wood and lightly oiled. It has a wire on the back so it will hang from a wall or can stand on a shelf or mantel piece.
