'Attacus Includes the Oriental Atlas Moths' | 2019

Attacus Includes the Oriental Atlas Moths | Recycled Paper, Reclaimed Fabric, Wire and Thread | 28cm x 24cm x5cm | 2018.

A study of an Atlas Moth, one of the largest species of Moth in the World. Its wingspan can reach around 30cm across although this particular study is a little smaller with a wing span of around 25cm.

The wings have been cut from an old brown paper bag and hand embroidered to create the details in her veins and patterns. The body has also been hand embroidered and stitched together from reclaimed fabric.

The frames are handmade for each display from solid wood and glass. This particular frame has been made from Oak which has been oxidised to create the dark colouring and then oiled. It has a wire on the back so it will hang from a wall or can stand on a shelf or mantel piece.
