'Family Sphingidae Herse Convolvuli'

Family Sphingidae Herse Convolvuli | Recycled Paper, Reclaimed Fabric, Wire and Thread | 28cm x 24cm x5cm | 2018.

A study of a Convolvus Moth, a migrant species that can be found in Britain, usually along the south and east coast. The moth is sat on a branch as they can often be found resting on tree trunks during the day and has been made life sized, with a wing span of 80-120mm.

Her wings have been cut from the pages of a magazine and hand embroidered to create the details in her veins and patterns. The body has also been hand embroidered and stitched together from reclaimed fabric.

The frames are handmade for each display from solid wood and glass. This particular frame has been made from Ash wood and lightly oiled. It has a wire on the back so it will hang from a wall or can stand on a shelf or mantel piece.
