Botanical Studies

2016-2018

One of my first sculptures was a Poppy plant. After taking a real Poppy flower apart to show my daughter what was inside I realised how paper like the petals were and how structural it was. I set about trying to create a template pattern from the pieces of real flower I had in front of me. I continued to develop this method of working with plants and have now document a large collection of different species, both from the UK and around the world. I enjoy the challenge of creating single studies of plants and trying to capture all their tiny details, although I also enjoy creating them in collections with insects or found objects as I love how they then begin to tell stories together.
